What is the Main Cause of Diabetes

Diabetes is known to be a metabolic disease that affects a person’s blood sugar and causes a high blood glucose level. This can happen because one’s insulin production is not enough, the body’s cells do not respond effectively to insulin or both.

There are various kinds of diabetes – the more popular ones being Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. For type 1 diabetes, the body’s immune system destroys the cells in the pancreas that are responsible for the production of insulin. Without an adequate amount of insulin, your body will not function normally. As for type 2 diabetes, the cause is usually more than one. The most common factor, though, is a family history of type 2 diabetes.

Though you can never really tell the specific cause for diabetes, knowing which type you have can definitely be of help. For example, for type 1 diabetes, the most common causes are the following: a viral or bacterial infection, consuming food with chemical toxins, and taking in any unidentified component which may cause the body to react abnormally. People with type 1 diabetes should know that diabetes was bound to happen in their life – it is inevitable because of an autoimmune reaction which caused the body to attack itself.

As for type 2 diabetes, the most common causes would be: obesity, having an inactive lifestyle, increasing age, and eating unhealthy foods. The cause of getting type 2 diabetes is usually multifactorial – this means that one or more of what was mentioned above could have caused you to develop the condition over time.

If you have a family member or relative suffering from diabetes (Type 2), then you may find yourself with it as you start to get older. For this reason, it is important to keep a watch on your diet. More importantly, you will need to live an active and healthy lifestyle. If you do this, you can walk away with a diabetes-free life.
